Samburu National Reserve: Unique Northern Species: Starting out, you’ll head over the central highlands, viewing coffee, tea, sisal, and pineapple plantations, complete with startling views of Mount Kenya. Then, on to Samburu National Reserve. This sun-draped park offers a wonderful variety of unusual game like the graceful reticulated giraffe and distinct Grevy’s zebra. Plus, opportunities to view more commonly known wildlife like leopard, cheetah, lion, and buffalo.
Thompson’s Falls: A Dramatic Stop: Moving on, we’ll stop to take in the drama of the 74 m high Thompson Falls at Nyahururu, a refreshing break on our journey.
Lake Nakuru National Park: Rhinos, Birds & Scenic Beauty: We then arrive at one of the most beautiful of Kenyan parks, Lake Nakuru National Park. Due to some progressive natural factors like increasing water levels, the flamingo numbers have been reducing, but the park itself remains stunning – one of Kenya’s finest. Great rocky escarpments tower over acacia forest, waterfalls, wooded hills, and euphorbia trees dot the lake.
The current quantity of flamingos is accompanied by other vibrant birdlife – pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks, as well as herons and eagles. The scene here is bountiful, busy, and full of color.
But that’s only the beginning of what this special park has to offer because the wildlife viewing here is easy and accessible. Lake Nakuru is known for hosting some endangered but beautiful species. You’re sure to see rare Rothschild’s Giraffe along with white rhino, especially along the lakeshore. The park is also a vital sanctuary to one of Kenya’s largest populations of black rhino. So get your camera ready!
Masai Mara National Reserve: The Ultimate Safari Destination: Your 6-day safari adventure next brings you up close to the richest eco-system in the natural world – the Masai Mara. You’ve heard of it, and now over the course of 3 days, you’ll experience the Mara up close. You’ll enjoy plenty of large and small wildlife on the great acacia-accented savannah here.
You’ll visit the Mara River – site of numerous hippo and crocodile. And during the migration season (July – October), you’ll be treated to the unforgettable sight of thousands upon thousands of wildebeests and zebra making their way across the river.
As a special finale to your safari, there will be an opportunity to visit with and learn about the Maasai people with an optional visit to their village.
