This is a full and enjoyably diverse safari. Diverse in the different parks and landforms you’ll experience. Diverse in the wonderful range of wildlife you’ll encounter. Diverse in the native cultures and peoples you’ll have the opportunity to meet. You’ll partake in exciting big game drives on sun-draped savannahs, view great elephants in dense upcountry jungle, and countless birdlife on shimmering mountain lakes. This safari offers a full week of fun, surprises, and experiences never to be forgotten.
Samburu National Reserve: Unique Northern Species: Your first stop at the Samburu National Reserve presents unusual species like the graceful Grevy’s Zebra and the distinctive reticulated giraffe. There’s also plenty of big game here such as lion, leopard, cheetah, and buffalo. The reserve is home to the Samburu people whose villages dot the landscape, offering a glimpse into their traditional way of life.
Aberdare National Park: Rainforest & Tree Hotel Experience: Perhaps one of the most unique parks and certainly your most unique lodging is at your next stop, Aberdare National Park. Amidst upcountry rainforest and cascading waterfalls, you’ll be staying at a memorable tree hotel! From your balcony, you’ll look out on the park’s fascinating wildlife, including black rhino, elephant, Cape buffalo, Bongo antelope, and much more, often visiting the lodge’s watering hole.
Lake Nakuru National Park: Rhinos, Birds & Scenic Beauty: Then it’s off to Lake Nakuru National Park, and along the way there you’ll pass the scenic drama of 74m high Thompson’s Falls, a picturesque natural landmark.
Due to some progressive natural factors like increasing water levels, the flamingo numbers at Lake Nakuru National Park have been reducing, but the park itself remains stunning – one of Kenya’s finest. Great rocky escarpments tower over acacia forest, waterfalls, wooded hills, and euphorbia trees dot the lake, creating a diverse and beautiful environment.
The current quantity of flamingos is accompanied by other abundant birdlife – pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks, as well as various herons and eagles. The scene here is bountiful, busy, and full of color.
But that’s only the beginning of what this special park has to offer because the wildlife viewing here is easy and accessible. Lake Nakuru is known for hosting some endangered but beautiful species. You’re sure to see rare Rothschild’s Giraffe along with white rhino, especially along the lakeshore. The park is also a vital sanctuary to one of Kenya’s largest populations of black rhino. So get your camera ready!
Lake Naivasha & Crescent Island: Water & Walking Safaris: It’s a short drive to Lake Naivasha and a delightful boat safari over the beautiful fresh water lake. Take in hippos, multitudes of birdlife, and small game on the shore. Then, at nearby Crescent Island, you’ll be treated to a guided walking safari. Here’s a story you can take back home as you stroll past grazing zebra, impala, giraffe, and other small game.
Masai Mara National Reserve: The Climax of Your Safari: The climax to your busy week of immersive scenery and wildlife is the world-famous Masai Mara. Known for its incredible diversity of game, including the Big Five, the Mara is Africa’s richest ecosystem. The stunning acacia-highlighted savannah will greet you first, and sightings of the park’s rich game will soon follow. You’ll spend 2 nights here soaking up the best Africa has to offer.
There will also be an opportunity (at an optional fee) to visit a Maasai village, meet the Maasai people, and learn about their unique history and culture. What a perfect way to end the perfect week. For a truly unique experience, an optional Hot Air Balloon ride over the great reserve is also available, viewing the vast herds below.
