Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary: Chimps, Rhinos & Big Five: Not far from Nairobi, Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary welcomes you with all of Africa’s Big Five – including a large population of lion and even greater numbers of endangered black rhinos. This is the only place in Kenya where you’ll get to see chimpanzees, protected and nurtured in the Sweetwaters Sanctuary. Samburu National Reserve: Abundant Elephants & Unique Species: Perhaps not as well-known as some of the other parks, Samburu National Reserve surpasses many of them in its great numbers of the big cats – lion, leopard, and cheetah. Not to mention elephants; the park boasts some 900 of these great, noble creatures. And if you’d like to see some out-of-the-way species, the reserve offers sightings of the unusual oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk… to name a few.

Day 01 :

Daily Itinerary

Nairobi – Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary (220km: Approx. 4 Hours)

Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

07:30 hrs: Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi area hotel, Nairobi airport, or Nairobi area residence to begin your drive to Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary.

We’ll travel through Kenya's beautiful central highlands, making scenic stops to view impressive coffee and tea plantations along our route.

Upon arrival at Ol Pejeta, we’ll take a break for lunch, and then embark on our first exhilarating game drive of the safari!

There’s so much to see in this unique reserve. Six prides of lions roam these plains, alongside other majestic big cats and packs of African wild dogs. We’ll explore the dedicated endangered species enclosure, a large drive-through area that is home to a significant population of critically endangered black rhinos.

Adding more delight to this versatile park is the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary – the only place in Kenya where you can observe these intelligent and fascinating creatures, rescued and cared for in a semi-wild environment.

We’ll spend the night at Ol Pejeta, at your choice of safari lodge or tented camp, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay.

Day 02 :

Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary – Samburu National Reserve (180 km Approx. 3 hrs)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We’ll rise early to enjoy the morning light and the first stirrings of wildlife upon the grasslands here.

After breakfast, we’ll take a final game drive through the sanctuary, bidding farewell to Ol Pejeta as we prepare for our journey to Samburu National Reserve.

This will be an easy and picturesque drive over the Kenyan highlands, where you'll notice us passing through several distinct climate zones on our way north.

Upon arrival at Samburu Park, we'll be introduced to its lifeblood, the Ewaso Ng'iro River, which provides life-sustaining waters to the abundant wildlife. Here at the river, we will actively look for lion, buffalo, elephant, and even hippo.

We’ll spend the first of two nights at Samburu, at your chosen safari lodge or tented camp.

Day 03 :

Full Day at Samburu National Reserve

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Let’s get up with the sun to enjoy the breaking of a new day in this wild and active park.

Today is a day of unlimited game drives – if you wish! Just let your driver/guide know how you would like to plan your time.

At the Ewaso Ng'iro River, we’ll be on watch for the park’s great populations of lion and elephant, who frequently come to this vital watering spot to refresh.

In Samburu, we can also spot unique species not typically found elsewhere, such as the distinctively patterned reticulated giraffe, oryx, Somali ostrich, and the endangered Grevy’s zebra.

The park also boasts over 450 species of avian life, including vibrant kingfishers, majestic vultures, guinea fowl, swift falcons, and powerful eagles. Despite its arid appearance, Samburu offers many fascinating surprises for the curious safari-goer.

Our final safari night will be at Samburu, at your chosen safari lodge or tented camp.

Day 04 :

Samburu – Nairobi: Farewell to Northern Kenya (320 km Approx. 5 hrs)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch (Lunch will be provided en route as part of the safari package)

It’s our final safari morning, so we’re up early to pack in as much as possible! Perhaps we’ll come upon a final elephant sighting or a roaming big cat – anything is possible here in Samburu.

We’ll then enjoy a delicious safari breakfast, surrounded by the natural wonders this incredible park has provided.

After breakfast, it’s time to begin our journey back to Nairobi, driving through the beautiful central highlands and passing the imposing form of Mount Kenya.

We anticipate arriving back in Nairobi around 16:30 hrs (4:30 PM). We’ll ensure a comfortable drop-off at your hotel, residence, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO).
