Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary: Unique Encounters: Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary is truly special. Nowhere else in Kenya can you see chimpanzees in their native habitat at the Sweetwaters Sanctuary. This reserve also harbors the largest number of black rhinos in East Africa within specially protected game corridors, a vital conservation effort. But you’ll also find all the Big Five here – at least six prides of lions populate the sanctuary, with healthy numbers of leopards and cheetahs as well.

Lake Naivasha Area: Diverse Safari Experiences: From the central highlands of Kenya, we’ll journey through the spectacular Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha for several unusual safari experiences. We’ll sail across the lake looking for hippos, pelicans, kingfishers, and more. Nearby Crescent Island Game Sanctuary gives us an opportunity to stretch our legs on a guided walking safari, viewing peacefully grazing small game. And, an optional bicycle ride to Hell’s Gate National Park will bring us up close to grazing antelope, buffalo, zebra, and giraffe amidst its dramatic landscapes.

Masai Mara National Reserve: Africa’s Iconic Wilderness: We’ll next set out for one of the grandest wildlife parks in the world, the vast plains and rolling hills of Masai Mara National Reserve. This amazing park boasts the highest density of wildlife in the region, so we’ll be tracking all the big game with a special emphasis on lions. You’ll have opportunities to meet the local Maasai people and even take an unforgettable hot air balloon safari over the park!

Day 01 :

Daily Itinerary

Nairobi – Ol Pejeta / Sweetwaters Sanctuary (220 km. Approx. 4 hours)

Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

7:30 hrs: Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi area hotel, Nairobi airport, or Nairobi area residence, and we’ll head out in our private 4x4 safari jeep for Ol Pejeta Conservancy. We’ll be traveling north through the lush highlands of central Kenya, passing vibrant farmland and plantations.

En route, we’ll take a break, stopping at Karatina, the largest open-air market in East Africa, a bustling hub of local commerce and culture.

We should arrive at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the afternoon, allowing ample time for exciting game drives and exploration. A highlight will be a visit to the very unique Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, where rescued and orphaned chimps are lovingly nursed back to health.

Ol Pejeta also features a protected zone for over 100 black rhinos, a crucial conservation area, and there’s also a healthy population of big cats in this special reserve. We will use our time well in this diverse and rewarding sanctuary.

We’ll spend the evening at your choice of Ol Pejeta/Mount Kenya safari lodge or tented camp, enjoying the serene atmosphere and reflecting on the day's wildlife encounters.

Day 02 :

Ol Pejeta – Lake Naivasha & Great Rift Valley (230Km – Approx. 4 hrs)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

There’s so much wildlife in Ol Pejeta – we’ll take an early morning game drive to see who we can spot before departing this lovely preserve.

We’re now headed through the Great Rift Valley on a scenic drive to Lake Naivasha. Along the way, we’ll stop at the impressive 74 m (243 ft) Thompson’s Falls to admire its dramatic cascades.

Continuing our journey, we’ll arrive at Lake Naivasha in time for an afternoon boat safari across the beautiful lake. This is an easy, relaxing ride, sailing past curious hippos and observing a rich array of exotic birdlife dotting the lake and its shores.

Nearby, we may spot antelope, zebra, buffalo, eland, and impala perhaps grazing peacefully on the shore.

We should also have time for a guided walking safari to the nearby Crescent Island Game Sanctuary. It’s a quick walk to this small park where we’ll get incredibly close to gracefully grazing impala, gazelle, and other browsers.

We’ll spend the night at the Lake Naivasha safari lodge or tented camp of your choice.

Day 03 :

Lake Naivasha – Masai Mara National Reserve (240 km – Approx. 5 Hrs)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

After breakfast, we depart for the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve.

(Optional Activity in Naivasha: You have the option to visit Hell’s Gate National Park for an additional USD 35 per person, where you can enjoy walking or bicycling among wildlife in a unique volcanic landscape.)

Our drive will take us past the dramatic rises and gorges of the Great Rift Valley, traversing through scenic Masai country.

The Masai Mara impresses visitors not only with its vast, expansive spaces but also with its amazing displays of wildlife, said to contain the greatest density of lions in the world.

We’ll arrive at this magnificent park with plenty of time for an exhilarating afternoon game drive. Over its rolling green hills and golden savannahs, we’ll be actively looking for the iconic big cats (lion, leopard, cheetah), along with elephant, giraffe, ostrich, warthog, buffalo, and many more fascinating species.

We’ll spend the next two nights at the Masai Mara, at your chosen safari lodge or tented camp, immersing ourselves in the heart of the wilderness.

Day 04 :

Full Day – Masai Mara Game Reserve: The Ultimate Safari Experience

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We’re at the greatest wildlife park in the world, so let’s get up early to enjoy it! We’ll see the light breaking over the reserve, with fresh tracks of wildlife impressed on the morning dew. The sun’s rays breaking through the park’s many iconic acacia trees signal new beginnings and great possibilities for sightings.

This is a day of unlimited game drives and fulfilling exploration. Sightings of lion are common on these plains, and we will actively track these mighty creatures.

The park is also known as the place where the greatest movement of animals on the planet occurs – the Great Migration. If you are here during the migrating season (typically July – October), you’ll be a witness to thousands and perhaps tens of thousands of gazelle, wildebeest, and zebra pouring into the park over the Mara River.

We’ll enjoy lunch by the Mara River and, if in season, watch the torrent of wildlife flood into the park. Also, nearby, we’ll look for hippos and crocodiles in their river habitat.

Rounding out your first-hand experience here, we offer several optional activities to enhance your safari:

Visit the local Maasai tribe at their nearby village. See their traditional lifestyle and culture up close, and take in their colorful ceremonies.
For the ultimate safari perspective, hop aboard a hot air balloon for a pre-dawn ride over the park. You’ll see the sun light up the savannah while the park comes alive below – this is an inspiring and unforgettable moment you’ll be talking about for years. Just ask your driver/guide to make the arrangements for this truly magical experience.

Our final night at the Masai Mara will be at the safari lodge or tented camp of your choice.

Day 05 :

Masai Mara – Nairobi: Safari Conclusion & Departure (265 km – Approx. 5 hrs)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch.

After a leisurely breakfast at your lodge/camp, your dedicated driver-guide will assist you with the check-out process, and we will begin our journey back to Nairobi – Kenya’s vibrant capital city.

On the way, your guide will point out the impressive Longonot extinct volcano, a stratovolcano located southeast of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya. It is thought to have last erupted in the 1860s, and its name is derived from the Maasai word Oloonong’ot, meaning “mountains of many spurs” or “steep ridges.”

You have flexible options for the return journey:

You can opt to drive via Naivasha for lunch/excursions (at an extra cost).
Alternatively, drive straight to Nairobi and pass by Kiambethu Farm for a tea farm tour, which includes a delicious three-course buffet lunch (at an extra cost).
OR, drive straight back to the capital and later transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) for your flight back home.

We will comfortably bring you to your Nairobi hotel, Nairobi residence, or the airport.
