The Masai Mara is the ultimate Kenya and East Africa park. Renowned for its vast, acacia-accented savannahs, the Mara is most famous for witnessing the Great Migration. This is the largest movement of wildlife on the planet, with a flood of over a million wildebeest, zebra, and impala seeking fresh vegetation after the rains, creating an unparalleled spectacle of nature.

Throughout your 4-day flight safari, you’ll be treated to multiple game viewing drives. Be on the lookout for Africa’s Big Five game, as the park is famous for hosting these large predators in healthy populations. In addition to lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino, there will be opportunities to view cheetah, hyena, and jackal, as well as countless grazers.

Then, take in the vast herds of the Great Migration which you can safely observe from your private 4×4 Safari Jeep. This great swath of wildebeest and zebra cross the Mara River, braving the awaiting crocodiles. All the elements of a life and death drama occur here as the cycle of nature unfolds again and again. No one who has witnessed the river crossing can ever forget it (typically July to October).

There will be other opportunities to experience the varied wildlife of the Mara, such as guided game walks (optional). Here you can get closer to the smaller animals and enjoy the varied birdlife that blankets the reserve.

The Maasai people have inhabited these lands for eons. You can enjoy an optional visit to one of their villages to learn first-hand about their cattle-raising culture, traditions, and vibrant way of life. On day 4 of your fly-in safari, there will be two additional game drives – one early morning before breakfast and another after breakfast, prior to your quick flight back to Nairobi, ensuring you maximize your time in the Mara.

Day 01 :

Daily Itinerary

Nairobi to Masai Mara - Fly-in Safari & First Game Drive

07:00 hrs: We’ll pick you up at your hotel, residence, the Nairobi airport, or the location of your choice for the short ride to Wilson Airport.

You’ll board your plane for the approximately one-hour scenic flight to the Masai Mara. Taking to the air, you’ll have a stunning vantage point over the sprawling Kenyan landscape. Along your route, look for the iconic form of Mount Kilimanjaro (weather permitting) and the dramatic escarpment of the Great Rift Valley.

You’ll land mid-morning at the Mara airstrip and be welcomed by your Walk With Maa Tours guide in a private, open-top 4x4 Safari Jeep. Heading for your safari lodge or tented camp, enjoy your first short game drive in the great reserve, immediately immersing you in the wilderness. Settle in, refresh, and get ready for lunch.

At lunch, your guide will tell you about the park, its incredible wildlife, and the different areas you can choose to visit, helping you plan your personalized safari experience.

The Masai Mara is the richest ecosystem in the region, filled with an abundance of predators and grazers. There are many prides of lions here, plus elusive leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and other carnivores.

So get ready for your first big game drive as you rumble over the Mara’s rolling hills and vast plains, past the signature acacia trees – a well-known symbol of Africa and this great park.

For the next four days, you’ll create your own game-viewing schedule. You can opt for unlimited drives to maximize sightings or take time out to relax at your accommodation. The choice is yours, allowing for a truly personalized safari experience.

Note: For those guests staying at conservancies who wish to travel to the Mara Triangle area to view the Great Migration river crossings, there is an approximate $80 per person surcharge. Your guide can advise on the best locations based on the season.

After a busy day of travel and thrilling game viewing, it’s time to rest and enjoy dinner at your safari lodge or tented campground.

Day 02 :

Full Day – Masai Mara: Golden Hours & Migration Spectacle

When on safari, we like to get up with the sun to watch its golden light spread over the fields. It’s a great time for game viewing as it is cool, and the wildlife is just emerging into the awakening day, often at its most active for hunting and foraging.

The Masai Mara is home to all of Africa’s ‘Big Five’ – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. But there are many other magnificent mammal species in this great park – over 95 in total – ensuring diverse and exciting sightings throughout your drives. You'll encounter vast herds of grazers and various predators stalking the plains.

Should you be visiting the Mara during the Great Migration season (July – October), get ready to witness a virtual flood of wildlife crossing over the Mara River from the neighboring Serengeti. Tens of thousands of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles pour into the park on their annual trek, searching for higher grasses – a truly awe-inspiring natural phenomenon.

After a full day of extensive game drives, exploring the Mara's famed landscapes and abundant wildlife, you'll rest up and enjoy a robust dinner at your lodging, recounting the day's unforgettable moments.

Day 03 :

Full Day – Masai Mara: Personalized Exploration & Optional Adventures

You’re getting into the rhythms and lifestyle of the safari life! Today is designed for even deeper immersion into the Masai Mara. Discuss with your guide your plan for the day: What areas of the reserve have you not yet seen? Which wildlife would you like to see more of? Your private guide will tailor the game drives to your preferences, maximizing your chances of unique sightings.

There are other aspects of the park that will enhance your experience here, offering both cultural and unforgettable adventurous opportunities:

Optional Maasai Village Visit: Take an optional visit to one of the local Maasai villages (at an extra cost, please arrange with your guide). You’ll get to meet these indigenous people and learn about their vibrant culture close up, witnessing their traditions, dances, and unique way of life.
Optional Hot Air Balloon Safari: Have you ever done a sky safari? For the ultimate Mara adventure, take an optional pre-dawn hot air balloon flight over the park (at an extra cost, your guide can handle all the details). You’ll rise with the sun, literally, as below, the reserve comes alive with the light and wildlife. A never-to-be-forgotten adventure, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the vast savannah and its teeming wildlife from above.

Day 04 :

Masai Mara – Nairobi: Final Game Drive & Departure

It's our fourth and final day – let’s pack in an early morning game drive to your favorite spots in the park. You’re now experienced safari-goers and can speak with some knowledge about the wildlife and the reserve, having observed its wonders firsthand.

We’ll head back to our accommodation for a big breakfast to fortify us for the final game drive and the flight back to Nairobi.

Soon it’s time to pack into our 4x4 Jeep for our last drive through the park on the way to the airstrip. Let’s settle into our plane and take a final look at the Mara as we climb above its scenic hills and rivers, cherishing the aerial perspective of this magnificent wilderness.

Our short flight back to Nairobi will again take us over the striking Kenyan landscape – a final reminder of all that we’ve experienced these past four days.

We should touch down at Wilson Airport in Nairobi around 12:45 hrs. One of our representatives will meet you for the transfer back to your hotel, residence, or place of your choosing, concluding your safari adventure.
