Day 01 :

Daily Itinerary

Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve Safari

Distance: 320 km (Approximately 5 hours) Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

Your adventure begins promptly at 07:30 hrs with a convenient pick-up by your driver/guide from your Nairobi hotel, residence, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO). We’ll embark on our journey north in a comfortable 4x4 safari jeep, traversing Kenya’s picturesque central highlands. Enjoy scenic views of small, local farms cultivating coffee, tea, sisal, and pineapples.

As we continue our drive, you’ll witness the imposing and majestic form of Mount Kenya, the pride of the country and its tallest peak, a truly breathtaking sight.

We anticipate arriving at the Samburu National Reserve in the afternoon. Upon entry, we'll begin to explore the three distinct parks—Samburu, Shaba, and Buffalo Springs—and their varied environments.

A significant natural landmark bordering Samburu and Buffalo Springs is the Ewaso Ng'iro River. This vital waterway serves as a lifeline for the parks’ abundant wildlife, creating an unexpected corridor of lush green forest that beautifully contrasts with the more arid landscapes of the reserves. Here, you'll observe wildlife from the neighboring reserves gathering to drink at the river's nourishing banks. The river is also home to hippos, crocodiles, and many of the diverse bird species found within the parks.

Day 02 :

Samburu National Reserve – Full Day Exploration

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We’ll greet the new day with an exhilarating game drive in Samburu National Reserve, setting out to find lion, leopard, cheetah, and any other fascinating wildlife that emerges in the dawning light.

Following the course of the life-giving Ewaso Ng'iro River, we'll continue our search for magnificent elephants, buffalo, and some of the more captivating smaller creatures, including the charming dik-dik, warthog, and the playful olive baboon.

Samburu is also historically significant as one of the two regions where the renowned conservationist Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness, famously immortalized in the book and movie, Born Free.

This region is also home to the Samburu people, an indigenous pastoral group closely related to the Maasai, who have inhabited this land for millennia. Their vibrant culture adds another rich layer to the safari experience.

As with all our safaris, you have the flexibility to be as active as you wish, or simply relax and enjoy the serene surroundings at your safari accommodation.

Your second night in the park will be spent at your chosen safari lodge or tented camp, under the vast African sky.

Day 03 :

Samburu – Nairobi: Farewell to the Northern Wilderness

Our final morning in Samburu National Reserve offers exciting opportunities to add more remarkable wildlife sightings to your checklist. Remember, not all the park’s animal activity is limited to mammals! Samburu is a true birdwatcher’s paradise, hosting over 350 species of birdlife, including vibrant kingfishers, majestic vultures, guinea fowl, elegant egrets, swift falcons, and powerful eagles. You’ll have plenty to watch for across the landscape, in the life-giving springs, and soaring overhead.

After a final, captivating game drive as we exit the park, we'll begin our scenic journey back to Nairobi.

To break up the drive back to the city, we’ll make a stop for a delightful lunch.

We anticipate arriving back in Nairobi in the late afternoon, where we will comfortably drop you off at your hotel, residence, or, should you wish, directly at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO).
