Rwenzori National Park in western Uganda is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its glaciers, waterfalls, alpine forests, and vibrant high-altitude flora—all just kilometers from the equator. The park is home to Africa’s third-highest peak, Mt. Stanley (5,109m), and the highest source of the River Nile.
These misty peaks shelter over 70 mammal species, including chimpanzees, forest elephants, buffaloes, and rare primates like L’Hoest’s monkey. Birders can spot 217 species, many endemic, including the Rwenzori Turaco. At lower elevations, bamboo forests and giant lobelias make this a true alpine wonderland.
